Dear Coach,

As we spike up for another track season, we are happy to extend an invitation to your team for the 4th Annual Dunbar Tigers Guy Thomas Memorial Track and Field Meet. Coach Thomas had a vision to host one of the most elite track meets in the state. He accomplished that dream in 2021 and it is our goal to continue what he started. Coach Thomas was accredited with building the Dunbar track team into a nationally known powerhouse. He created the Hurdle U University training facility where he trained and mentored several aspiring and professional athletes. He made a lasting impact on student-athletes and achieved great success as an educator and coach. We will honor his dedication to the sport and continue his dream for many years. We look forward to seeing everyone in March!

Competition Communication & Info:

Meet updates and communication will be sent via emails that are listed on Direct Athletics. Only registered coaches will receive communication.


Awards:

Medals will be awarded to the top 3 finisher in each event and will be given out at the conclusion of each event. Team Champion trophies will be awarded to the top Boys & Girls team at the conclusion of the meet. A meet MVP will be awarded to the highest scoring male and female. Please be sure to remain after the meet to collect any remaining awards.


Officials:

The Broward County Track & Field Officials Association will be on-site for this meet. This meet has been sanctioned by the FHSAA and the NFHS. This meet will qualify for regional at-large qualification. Click Link Below

Packet Pick-Up:

Packets will be available when gates open at 7:00am. The coaches meeting will be conducted in the center of the Football field. You will be able to pick up packets during the coaches meeting at the Clerk of the Course tent.


Parking:

Busses are asked to drop teams off on Tiger Trail. There will be volunteers directing busses. Please check prior to meet for updates or changes.


Athlete & Coaches

Athletes will not be permitted on the infield unless they are competing in long jump, triple jump, or high jump. Any athlete on the infield not competing in these events will be disqualified. Coaches will NOT be allowed on the infield due to sanctioning requirements. There will be Coaches boxes at long jump, triple jump, and high jump. Every athlete who is competing in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump will receive a wristband which will allow them access to the field. Wristbands will be provided in coaches packets.


Medical:

Athletic trainers will be on site for the entire meet. The Athletic Training staff will be located at the tent at the south end of the track near the start-finish line.


Warm-Up:

Athletes may warm up on the practice field near tent city. NO WARMING UP ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD/INFIELD. Warming up on the infield will result in disqualification.


Check-In Procedures:

Runners must check-in at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each event. Athletes must have their bib with them and be fully dressed and ready to compete at the time of check-in. Athletes will enter the track on the south side of the stadium near the field house. Check-in area will be located on the tennis courts.

Cost:

$165 per gender (Please see details below and send payment prior to the meet)


Participants:

Each team is limited to 4 athletes per running event and 3 per field events. Entries must be entered into Directathletics.com by Tuesday, March 19th at 11:59pm. You will not be able to add athletes at the event. A late fee of $50 will be assessed for re-opening registration on DA.


Weigh-ins:

Weigh-ins will be conducted for ALL field events. Weigh-ins will take place from 10:30am to 11:25am. Weigh-ins will take place on the tennis courts.


Field Events:

Three attempts will be given to athletes in LJ, TJ, SP, JAV, and Discus. All field events will be run as finals. We will mark the first legal attempt then have a minimum for the remaining attempts. Field Events will be limited this year to reflect the following by gender:

LJ / TJ – Top 32 Athletes

Shot / Discus – Top 45 Athletes

Javelin – Top 45 Athletes

Pole Vault – Top 24 Athletes

High Jump – Top 24 Athletes

Important Reminders:

-No Athletes are permitted on the infield unless competing in an event (Wristbands will be given to HJ, LJ, and TJ athletes)

-Coaches are required to keep their athletes off the football field/infield (Will result in disqualification)

-Field Events (with the exception of vertical jumps) will allow 3 attempts

-No more than 4 entries per running event and 3 per field event.

-Warm-ups will be limited to the designated warm-up area next to tent city

-No changes or additions will be allowed at the meet, only scratches will be permitted

-All heat sheets will be live on Mile split 

-FHSAA Rules prevail

-DO NOT ASSUME YOUR ATHLETES/TEAM IS ENTERED IF YOU HAVE NOT SENT PAYMENT

-Hospitality will be provided for coaches

-Each team will receive 4 coaches lanyards to gain access to the coaches boxes and hospitality

-Spikes no longer than 1/4" pyramid will be permitted
